One of the best time of the year
What are the main factors which influence and form the success of the mobile device? It is quite an interesting question the answer to which is quite biased. Someone would call that top gadgets with powerful cameras, high resolution and excellent processor are of vital importance. And they are right, the Android platform began to be considered a worthy alternative to other mobile OS only after a range of top phones were delivered to the market by Motorola, HTC and other hardware manufacturers.
However, there is certainly another group of people who would state that a powerful operating system with a range of provided functionalities is the most important thing for a mobile gadget. And they are also right, as there are quite a few examples to prove the point. For example, Microsoft’s Stone and Pebble – nicknames widely used for Kin 1 and Kin 2 – were quite mediocre phones but extremely weak mobile software which supported them contributed to the overall failure of the gadgets. The manufacturer had to withdraw the devices from stores just after several weeks of sales and only several dozens of items sold. At the same time Android phones became more popular only after Android developers released Froyo which added to the platform all the features modern mobile platforms must have and all the functionalities a satiated user is eager to find in one.
But even having both a powerful gadget and a splendid OS is not enough to become the market hit and attract lots of consumers. To prove the point one has to think about a lineup of smartphones provided by Palm. Everybody would agree that webOS enjoys all the functionalities a modern platform needs. What’s more, their gadgets are not that bad. But all that did not help the company to keep its head over the water. Some analysts state that the misfortune of Palm’s company was connected with quite unprofessional and badly organized marketing and advertising policy run by the company. So, quite a good gadget with one of the best OS installed was ruined by poor management to the utmost degree. Palm’s head had to look for some white knight to solve all their problems. Quite fortunately at that time HP was looking for some pretext to squeeze into the mobile market, so, the companies found each other and lived happily ever after.
So, it seems that neither hardware, nor software taken separately are not enough to make a smartphone or a tablet the crowd’s favorite. At the same time they are all important for satiated consumers who want to possess the best things possible. Though, there is one more factor the impact of which is hardly possible to overestimate – content.
